Dollhouse Bookshelf

Smart Girls DIY has moved to SmartGirlsDIY.com and this post can now be found here
It's not always cheaper (or easier) to build something yourself.  I purchased this unfinished wood dollhouse bookshelf from A.C. Moore with a 50% off coupon.  This is what it looked like in my daughter's room shortly after we moved in.  Her walls were painted-over-wallpaper and it was a HUGE pain in the butt to take it down and paint her walls.  If I had to do it again, I would probably just paint over the painted-over-wallpaper.  Anyway, here's the shelf...

I toyed with the idea of decoupaging the roof, but in the end I just stuck with paint.  But I did add a back to the bookshelf using luan (super skinny 1/4" plywood) that I had lying around.  I think it looks a lot more "finished" with the back on there.

I used the same orange paint I had from painting the side table, but bought yellow for the inside.  I like the two-toned look, but it's still subtle because the colors are similar.

These are my some of my favorite Ikea curtains

My daughter loves it and that's what matters most! :)

Thanks for visiting!

    1. Thanks Mindi! My daughter is very resistant to change, but I think she's finally agreed to let me paint her "new" bed and she chose yellow. It was easier when she was too young to have a say. ;) Thanks for coming over!!
