It's been raining on and off around here for the past two days, which is great for the plants, not so great for me, especially for my spray painting projects. But I did get some more random stuff done...
I started planting my canna bulbs. I had great luck with them last year, but it's
different this year because I am not sure if I over-wintered them
correctly. We'll see! I still have a ton more to plant.
Thanks to my 11 year old assistant for taking all the pics of me!
I've been fertilizing the crap out my bamboo (with organic fertilizer, so as not to burn the roots).
This has to be the biggest disappointment in my garden. This clumping bamboo is supposed to
get 15-18 feet tall and I bought it specifically to shield the view of my jerk of a neighbor. I went
to a specialty nursery to buy it and have been waiting patiently for it to grow. I was complaining
about it last year to an expert and he told me the following about bamboo:
The first year it sleeps
The second year it creeps
The third year it leaps!
Luckily this is the third year. And look at all that new growth already!!
I primed two chairs I found in the garbage years ago. They've been sitting around
behind my shed looking like junk for years.
I also fooled around with extending my retaining wall. I am afraid my new patio (post coming soon!) will shift around too much if I don't add some additional height. Nothing is glued down yet.I decided I needed more flower pots (really because I used so many for herbs this year) so my assistant and I went on a hunt for some last night. We went to Home Goods and had a blast looking around, but in the end the only thing we got was a stack of pallets from out back. ;) It's my fav place to get pallets!
Today I planted a bunch of artichoke seedlings. I got a pot at Home Depot a few weeks
ago for $2 and there were like a dozen seedling in there.
I planted some moss I got at HD last night. I think I'm going to have to get some more!!
My assistant and I stopped at a local nursery on the way home from her orthodontist appointment
and picked up a couple of peanut plants. This is a new one for me!
And finally, I put some netting on my strawberries because the berries are starting to come in and I want to try to keep the critters away! My kids are going to be so stoked to pick (and eat!) the berries soon!!Thanks for visiting,
Smart Girl
Looking good lady!!! Good luck with the canna bulbs!! My squirrels dug mine up last year!!! I have pretty much wired everything off this year to keep them from digging up more! Your strawberries are looking awesome!!!
