This is what our kitchen looked like when we moved in. There were cheap
brass-looking knobs that I couldn't stand.
My cheap fix was to spray paint them turquoise. I took them all off, nailed a bunch of nails in a piece of scrap wood and sprayed them down. Disclaimer: I didn't use primer. After 3 years the knobs looked like crap. Plus the screws weren't holding any more. So for my birthday this year I told my hubby what I wanted for a present was for him to take off all the gross knobs and thoroughly wash the fronts off all the cabinets. He was happy to oblige. But... it took me a while to find a suitable replacement. This was my first attempt. These blue knobs were a steal at $.98 from Lowe's but I decided I did not like the shape or the color. Bummer. After 2 trips to Hobby Lobby (which is an hour away from me) I gave up on the finding cool and affordable knob replacements. I never found anything that would work really well in a kitchen, plus it wasn't worth it to convert dresser-type knobs to cabinet knobs. I did pick up a bunch of great knobs on my two trips. :) (Check out my post Knobs Make Furniture Happy.) So back to the drawing board. I search Home Depot and Lowe's AGAIN. I looked online. Finally I settled on the medium sized wood knobs from Home Depot, which are also $.98 a piece.
Instead of spray painting them this time, I painted them by hand. I had a Valspar sample container lying around that worked out really well. The color is Tropical Bay. Here is my handsome helper at work.
Here's my equally as cute, but definitely more skilled helper at work.
Do you like my handy painting station? It came in handy when I took the set
outside to give 2 coats of polyacrylic.
Then hubby was all set to put them back on. But oh no!! For some reason I remembered that we needed 27 knobs total. Well I must be losing my mind because we need 41! Three trips to 2 different Home Depot's later and we are still 12 knobs short. See I am not meant to finish a project EVER! :(
...Finally I painted the last 14. Yey!! Here's the final product! Oh and hubby LOVES them too!
Well what do you think? Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteThanks girl! It's been cold here the past 2 days and I haven't been doing much work outside. There's always plenty to do inside! ;)
