Week 7 - A Garden by Garden Tour

I am going to try (really hard) to do a weekly update of the yard because I love looking back on things and seeing how much they've grown.  I am going to go in the order of the garden beds I numbered for you.  Check out the map of my yard to follow along.  Remember these are not "finished" shots, just what's going on right now.  And less talky.  More pictures!

Garden 1 got some mulch!  I also took out the sad plant that was "dead" center and replaced it with a hydrangea that was not thriving where it was (garden 9).

 

The KnockOut Rose (left back, above) is blooming for the first time.  I planted it in the fall and it's always a surprise what will happen in the spring.  I definitely need to add the Bayer All-In-One I used on the roses in garden 6 a few weeks ago because the ones in the back aren't getting eaten up like this one is.

This butterfly bush will be bigger than the green giant arborvitae before you know it.  OMG my hubby keeps telling me he is going to fix that gutter.  Sheesh!  Must I do everything?! ;)

Here's the front of our property.  As you can see I stink at maintaining my grass.  I planted seed and it was good for a year, but it gets neglected.  I'll probably get rid of it by the fall.  Garden #2 gets neglected too.  That bushy grass will get at least 3x as big!

Here's a wider view.  The first 2 grasses (garden 3) aren't doing so well right now because my jerk neighbor just had work done on his driveway and the workers threw my rocks onto the grasses.  I just noticed and moved them today. 

The gladiolus bulbs I planted in week 6 are already coming up!!  Look between the two bamboos on the right.

Still in garden 3, but heading into the shade, the hosta are getting bigger every day.  I keep spraying them with Repels-All as they grow, otherwise the deer will make a nice snack of them.

The peonies in garden 4 are going to open any day now.  They were beautiful last year!

I'm in the process of adding stone dust to my gravel walkway, that's the discolored area you see.  The kiwi vines are going crazy and I can't wait to see if we get fruit this year.

Garden 5 is in the woods.  Look how great 2 of these 3 azaleas are doing.  That 3rd one is D.E.A.D.!  I wonder what conditions were different for that one plant?

I just moved this peony from garden 9 and it's the first to bloom.  I'll have to write a post about my lanterns one of these days.

This part of garden 6 is not looking too hot.

Check out the giant bleeding hearts in garden 7.  There is a birdbath in there you can't even see anymore because they've gotten so big.  That hideous deck is one of the last things to redo in the yard and it is going to happen any day now.  Hopefully before our Memorial Day party, but I'm not holding my breath!

I was talked into making this the "Children's Garden."  So far it's not looking too good.  This is the back of garden 9 across from 7.

This is a new addition to garden 8.  It replaced a dying rhododendrun.  This one looks very healthy!

The front side of garden 8 is filling in nicely.  The liriope (lilyturf) up front is newly planted from a 6 pack, so they are small, but I'm sure they won't be for long.

And finally... this is the other end of garden 8 by the garage.  These Euphorbia  are growing like crazy!!  I had no idea what they were when I bought them, but I definitely likey!  I'll have to take a better picture too.  The purplish plant in the middle is Blackbird Euphorbia and the bright green one to the left is Ascot Rainbow Euphorbia.  And no, I don't know these names off the top of my head.  I just dug through a container of about 100 plant tags to find it.  But it does get me motivated to identify each tag and tell you about each of the plants in my garden.  At least I'll pretend I'm doing it for YOU, but really I would love to have that info for ME. ;)
